What Youll Do As A Fire Education & Testing Coordinator:
Within Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provide program direction by relieving superior of a variety of difficult duties pertaining to the EMS & Fire Education training & testing programs:
Manage & oversee the accreditation of EMS training & testing programs as approved by the State Board of Emergency Medical Fire & Transportation Services (EMFTS); Respond to programmatic issues or needs of leadership staff or participating EMS & Fire agencies;
Create & manage test development plans & timelines; Develop & maintain documentation related to the exam development process standard-setting studies & validation efforts;
Assist in the management of secure item banks & track the status of all test questions & associated data including imports & exports of test files;
Create & implement structures & methodologies for both cognitive & psychomotor skills to ensure comprehensive coverage;
Identify recruit & train qualified subject matter experts (SME) to assist with the review & validation of test content; Organize & lead meetings & workshops with SMEs to guide them through exam development;
Design & maintain databases for online testing system to ensure quality reliability & security; Analyze data & identify any functionality or performance defects; Develop solutions to improve functionality;
Utilize state vehicle to visit EMS & fire training institutions in order to manage &/or conduct on-site reviews related to test administration & accreditation;
Formulate & implement program policy & procedure; Develop & maintain exam request policies & processes for fire charters & EMS accredited training programs; Implement & enforce strict security protocols to prevent test content from being compromised; Prepare & present test administration updates to stakeholders & committees;
Serve as a liaison with EMS & fire training program directors authorizing officials coordinators & instructors;
Oversee the chartering of fire training programs & conduct site visits required for issuing initial charters &/or renewal of existing chartered fire training programs;
Assist with curriculum & course objective development; Review curriculum of out of state applicants for compliance with Ohio minimum training standards;
Assist with the development & implementation of fire training policies & application procedures regarding fire training charters; Ensure compliance with policies & procedures as they pertain to accreditation & chartering;
Serve as liaison with various boards committees & subcommittees on issues related to training sites program coordinators instructors & curricula as needed;
Review OAC rules related to EMS & fire training institutions; Ensure accredited institutions & chartered fire training programs are complying with OAC rules; Recommend rule review & changes as it affects EMS & fire training programs;
Create update & maintain records (hardcopy & electronic) pertaining to audits & training programs;
Provide documentation of findings of site visits & audits to the appropriate EMS staff for review approval &/or next steps;
Assist other staff members with related duties as needed (e.g. reciprocity applications instructor training individual certifications investigations of Ohio Revised Code (ORC) or Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) violations etc.);
Develop & deliver presentations pertaining to EMS policies & processes; Furnish information & explain programs to the public; Organize materials for displays & partner organizations;
Oversee the development of other EMS print material (i.e. forms fact cards post cards information sources etc.); Ensure all documents are maintained in accordance with current record retentions schedules;
Serve as liaison to the State Emergency Operations Center;
Represent administrator at meetings trainings & conferences;
Perform other related duties as assigned;

The Emergency Medical Services is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety. They are responsible for Certification of all emergency medical service and fire service providers in the state of Ohio and certification of fire and EMS instructors; Accreditation and chartering of fire and EMS training institutions and approval of EMS continuing education sites; Collection and analysis of EMS incident data; Lead agency for the states trauma system; Support of the EMS for Children (EMSC) program; and Regulation of private medical transportation services (air medical ambulance MoICU and ambulette).
