General Sales Manager (GSM)

Position Overview
Dutton Buick GMC Cadillac is seeking an experienced and driven General Sales Manager (GSM) to lead our new and pre-owned sales operations. As one of Riversides premier Buick GMC and Cadillac dealerships we are committed to delivering luxury performance and reliability with every customer experience. The GSM will oversee all aspects of sales performance ensuring the dealership consistently achieves volume profitability and customer satisfaction goals while maintaining compliance with General Motors standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Performance
- Lead and manage the sales department to achieve monthly and annual targets in new Buick GMC and Cadillac vehicles as well as pre-owned inventory.
- Develop sales forecasts and strategies in alignment with dealership objectives and GM programs.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including units sold gross profit CSI and F&I penetration and implement corrective actions as needed.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit train and coach sales managers and consultants to deliver peak performance.
- Motivate the sales team through effective pay plans recognition programs and ongoing development.
- Conduct regular sales meetings to communicate goals share product knowledge and reinforce Dutton standards of excellence.
Customer Experience
- Ensure that every customer receives a premium professional and seamless buying experience consistent with Buick GMC and Cadillac expectations.
- Oversee customer issue resolution and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Monitor CSI scores implement improvement plans and collaborate with GM to meet or exceed standards.
Inventory & Marketing
- Manage ordering allocation and inventory mix to maximize profitability and meet customer demand.
- Collaborate with the dealerships marketing team to develop effective campaigns for Buick GMC and Cadillac products across digital social and traditional platforms.
- Stay informed on local market trends and competitor activity in the Riverside Auto Center and surrounding areas.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws as well as General Motors and dealership policies.
- Review sales performance reports and provide regular updates to the Dealer Principal/General Manager.
- Partner with the Finance & Insurance department to ensure optimal deal structure compliance and profitability.
Qualifications
- Proven success as a General Sales Manager or Sales Manager in an automotive dealership (GM brand experience preferred).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and hold a team accountable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with both staff and customers.
- Proficiency with dealership CRM and DMS systems.
- Solid financial acumen and ability to analyze sales and profit reports.
- Commitment to delivering the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction.
