Veterans Services Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Veterans Services Coordinator (VSC) is a member of the University Veteran Services Office a team of five professional staff and student employees that support military and veteran connected students at UW-Madison. The VSC is one of several School Certifying Officials (SCO) and must adhere to state and federal rules regulations and guidelines while administering educational benefits in an accurate and timely manner. The VSC will work collaboratively as a team member to meet with and advise students prospective students and their families develop relationships with key stakeholders implement programs and services in the support of the unit and area missions and educate and advocate for all students needs. Working with campus peers the VSC works closely with peer offices to create and maintain a holistic support system for all Badgers.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing information and education on military connected students

  • Analyzes records systems and processes to identify compliance with established regulations and procedures

  • Performs moderately complex data analyses and reporting

  • Manages benefit eligibility benefit advising and accurate delivery of benefits for military connected individuals

  • Provides students connections to campus resources advising and community building opportunities to foster student success and sense of belonging

  • Contributes to the development execution and review of programs and services designed to meet unit objectives

  • Provides guidance and consultation to students prospective students and their families on the usage of benefits military and veteran program rules and regulations and coordination with federal and state entities on military and veteran matters

  • Advocates for military connected students in all aspects of campus life and promotes a campus philosophy of military and veteran identity inclusiveness

University Veteran Services (UVS) is organized within the Student Success and Belonging Theme Area of Student Affairs. As the main point of contact and first-stop for military-students UVS plays a key role in navigating the complexities of educational benefits and campus through partnerships with business military/veteran and student services offices on campus and in the community. Recently relocated to the Armory and Gymnasium (Red Gym) UVS supports the Wisconsin Experience of military-connected students by fostering personal transitions and pursuit of academic success of approximately 2000 Badgers enrolled at every level and at every school or college at UW-Madison.

UVS is part of Student Affairs at the University of WisconsinMadison led by the vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being student success and belonging leadership and engagement and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.

Compensation:

The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $51000.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance tax-advantaged savings accounts and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
