Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Field Services and Safety Manager the Field Supervisor is responsible for planning organizing and evaluating the activities of Animal Control Officers to ensure alignment with the objectives of Harris County Veterinary Public Health. The Field Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision and guidance to the Animal Control Officers and may actively participate in field operations as necessary. This position must portray a friendly professional attitude and image at all times.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Field Services and Safety Manager to ensure that state laws and Harris County regulations are properly interpreted and enforced.
  • Leads trains develops and evaluates a team of Animal Control Officers.
  • Monitors team performance by accompanying them in the field reviewing daily and monthly field statistics and assessing trip reports.
  • Handles complaint arbitration as needed.
  • Enforces Dangerous Wild Animal and Dangerous Dog regulations by conducting inspections issuing citations as appropriate and verifying that all permits are current.
  • Manages various aspects of the field program including but not limited to fleet maintenance and computer updates.
  • Performs bite case reviews.
  • Acts as the Field Services and Safety Manager in his/her absence.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in animal welfare veterinary medicine or animal control.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory/team lead experience.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Valid Texas Drivers License.
  • Must complete the Department of State Health Services Basic Animal Control Officers Certification within one (1) year of employment and maintain that certification.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to handle difficult people and situations in a professional manner is necessary.
  • Must be comfortable working with animals.
  • Speaks in a clear and credible manner selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Chameleon Animal Care Software or the ability to learn within six (6) months of employment.
  • Effectively prioritizes multiple tasks/initiatives with advanced organization skills.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time 40 hrs. per week.
  • Other days and hours as needed.
  • Must be willing to flex work hours when required including weekends.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in an animal shelter environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Required field work and travel relative to field supervision and special projects.

Physical Demands:

  • This position both sedentary and field based.
  • Will require lifting of animals navigating tough environmental conditions bending and standing.
