The Arizona State Retirement System is seeking a proactive individual with work experience in pension-related calculations to fill three vacancies on the Production Support team in Member Benefits.
Due to the high caliber of internal ASRS candidates this recruitment is open only to current ASRS employees.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility autonomy and trust. Across our many agencies boards and commissions many State employees participate in the States Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes in offices and in hoteling spaces. All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.
| Job Duties: |
Performs reviews and validates complex calculations for ASRS benefits. This includes reviewing the calculation and processing elements completed by others to ensure accuracy completeness and proper payment of benefits.
Communicates with members internal staff and employers through all modes of communication.
Researches analyzes and verifies information relating to members and beneficiaries benefit payments and member accounts following statute and legal determinations.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state legislation and Internal Revenue Service regulations.
Assists with cross divisional work as assigned. Mentoring others.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
| Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated financial/disbursement systems and databases
Knowledge of statutes policies and procedures and information systems pertaining to ASRS
Knowledge of IRS regulations with regard to payment and reporting of annuities and lump sum disbursements
Advanced analytical mathematical and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail to process a high volume of varying calculations and reviews and meet multiple deadlines with a superior level of accuracy
Ability to work effectively independently and in team environment
Proactive in resolving complex issues and improving inefficiencies
Exercise a high degree of initiative and independence
Strong computer skills with emphasis on Excel and relational databases
Superior organizational skills in order to multi task and adapt easily to changing priorities
Proven ability to apply Arizona statutes to work process

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
Prefer one year of work experience calculating and reviewing benefits pensions or similar financial transactions
Prefer one year work experience calculating adjustments to individual account balances
Prefer Bachelors degree with an emphasis in math
