Key Responsibilities

Identification and Authentication: Determining if a gemstone is natural synthetic or an imitation and identifying its origin.

Grading and Valuation: Assessing gemstones based on the 4Cs (cut clarity color carat weight) and providing appraisals for insurance or sales.

Cutting and Polishing: Shaping and polishing rough stones to enhance their brilliance color and clarity using techniques like faceting.

Jewelry Design and Crafting: Designing and creating jewelry setting stones and repairing existing pieces.

Sales and Consultation: Advising clients retailers and designers on selecting and purchasing gemstones and jewelry.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Gemological Knowledge: Understanding of gemstone properties crystal structures and phenomena.

Technical Proficiency: Skill in using specialized tools like microscopes grading instruments and processing equipment.

Analytical and Detail-Oriented: Strong ability to examine gemstones and record detailed findings.
