Description

The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) seeks an experienced and student-centered professional to serve as Director of Military and Veteran Services.This full-time position supports UMAs Augusta and Bangor campuses as well as eight Centers statewide. This position resides on our Augusta campus.

The Director will lead efforts to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students who are active-duty service members veterans and their families. Working collaboratively across the University the Director will develop and coordinate programs services and resources that strengthen recruitment retention and graduation of military-affiliated students.

Serving as primary point of contact for military and veteran students the Director will:

  • Provide academic advising support and advocacy.
  • Assist students in access and navigating veterans educational benefits.
  • Organize events and activities that honor and celebrate military service.
  • Partner with campus departments and external agencies to expand student support networks.

Required:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Two to four years experience working with active-duty military and veterans.
  • Basic understanding of veterans benefits pertaining to higher education.

Preferred:

  • Two to four years relevant experience in higher education setting.
  • Earned Masters Degree in Adult Education Social Work Counseling or other appropriate discipline.
  • Membership in community state and/or federal organizations affecting active-duty military and veterans services.
  • Knowledge of current federal guidelines pertaining to military and student veteran educational benefits.

Salary:The normal hiring salary range for this position is in the low to mid $60000s and is commensurate with training education and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.
