Senior Technical Project Manager
Initial contract through June 2026 - high likelihood for extension!
Location: Hybrid 1 2 days onsite in the Greater Boston area; remaining days remote
Schedule: 37.5 hour work week
A dynamic opportunity for a Senior Technical Project Manager to lead large-scale complex and transformational IT projects supporting critical infrastructure and enterprise technology environments. This role is part of a broader initiative to modernize and consolidate IT services across multiple departments and facilities.
The Senior Technical Project Manager will report to a Portfolio Management Team Director and collaborate with cross-functional teams-including operations risk management technology privacy and finance-to manage all aspects of project delivery from planning through execution and closure. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments and brings a solutions-oriented mindset to drive successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-departmental initiatives adapting quickly to changing priorities with agility and focus.
- Develop and maintain project artifacts including plans user stories timelines budgets and executive-level presentations.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and project scope documentation.
- Collaborate with technical leadership to ensure alignment with organizational standards and advocate for optimal technical solutions.
- Facilitate project assessments to identify successes areas for improvement and lessons learned.
- Provide regular updates through written status reports and leadership presentations.
- Support strategic planning efforts and maintain PMO processes and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 7 years of experience in IT project management preferably in senior roles with budget oversight and cross-functional engagement.
- Proven success managing large and complex IT programs and leading teams through change.
- Strong leadership in stakeholder management meeting facilitation and guiding matrixed teams.
- Excellent communication negotiation writing and presentation skills.
- Experience implementing change management strategies that align people processes and technology with business goals.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g. PMP Agile Scrum) governance frameworks and change management.
- Comfortable working in environments with high levels of change and fluid requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
- Ability to communicate technical requirements clearly and break down complex problems.
- Skilled in risk management process redesign and stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with IT concepts including cloud hosting and network solutions.
- Experience with IT diagrams and vendor proposal management.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g. Microsoft Project JIRA).
- PMP PM-ACP CSM or equivalent certification preferred.
- Prior experience in government or public-sector environments is a plus.
