Job Description

Design Approval Representative (DAR)


We are seeking an experienced Design Approval Representative (DAR) certified by Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) to support our clients certification efforts. The DAR will play a critical role in ensuring that the rotorcraft meet all necessary regulatory requirements under Canadian regulations working closely with cross-functional teams and regulatory authorities.

Responsibilities May Include:

  1. Acting as the primary liaison between the organization and Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) guiding compliance and regulatory requirements.
  2. Reviewing and approving engineering designs ensuring they meet TCCA standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  3. Preparing reviewing and submitting essential certification documentation including compliance reports test plans and analyses to TCCA and other regulatory bodies.
  4. Providing expert technical guidance to engineering teams on regulatory compliance and certification processes.
  5. Ensuring adherence to standards like RTCA DO-178C DO-254 and SAE ARP 4754A for software hardware and systems certification.
  6. Conducting and overseeing conformity inspections to validate compliance with aviation safety regulations and certification requirements.
  7. Leading certification projects ensuring timely execution and successful approval of aircraft systems and components.
  8. Supporting the integration of certification processes into the engineering and project management workflows.
  9. Mentoring and training engineering staff on certification processes and ensuring alignment with TCCA regulations.
  10. Staying current with Canadian and international aviation certification standards and communicating updates to the team.
  11. Maintaining detailed documentation of certification activities approvals and communication with regulatory authorities.
  12. Collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineering quality assurance and project management to facilitate the certification process.


Required Qualifications:

  1. TCCA-certified DAR with active authorization in one or more relevant technical areas such as aircraft software airborne electronic hardware (AEH) or systems certification.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the aerospace industry with a focus on certification activities for military or commercial rotorcraft.
  3. Expertise in TCCA regulations and standards along with a solid understanding of FAA and EASA regulatory frameworks.
  4. Demonstrated experience in software hardware and/or systems certification with proficiency in applicable standards like RTCA DO-178C DO-254 and SAE ARP 4754A.
  5. Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex certification projects including resource allocation scheduling and risk management.
  6. Expert technical communication skills with a proven track record of collaborating with regulatory authorities and engineering teams.
  7. In-depth experience with the preparation review and approval of certification documents and compliance reports.


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous involvement in certification activities related to rotorcraft programs.
  2. Deep technical knowledge of engine control systems digital and analog design and aircraft systems across multiple certification levels (A-D).
  3. Experience collaborating with international regulatory bodies such as the FAA and EASA.
  4. Expertise in airborne software and/or hardware development with compliance to DO-178 and DO-254 standards.
  5. Proven leadership in cross-functional teams managing relationships with suppliers customers and regulatory bodies.
  6. Advanced degrees or certifications in aerospace or related disciplines.


Location:

  • Mirabel Quebec Canada
    • Onsite and remote work options available with travel to support certification efforts.
    • Onsite strongly preferred.
