Engineering Leadership Development Program (G. Start) Whitby ON

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This position will work out of our Quality Control (QC) department completing various administrative tasks and projects. Join our team as a Metallurgy Intern and immerse yourself in the dynamic environment of a steel mill. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals learn industry best practices and develop skills in quality control processes. This position will be a full-time 12-month long internship opportunity.

Please note important information regarding this job opportunity:

  • This job opportunity is a 12-month contract position commencing September 2025. Candidates MUST be able to work the full 12-months at full-time capacity. We currently do not honour internships of a shorter duration.
  • This job opportunity is tailored towards third year Bachelors of Materials Science students currently enrolled at recognized accredited University. Candidates MUST be returning to full-time studies following this internship.
  • This job opportunity is fully onsite. There are no opportunities for remote work. Candidates MUST be in commutable distance from the facility located at 1 Gerdau Court in Whitby ON.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in the testing and analysis of steel products to ensure quality standards are met. Verify and calibrate measuring equipment.
  • Learn and apply metallurgical techniques to assess material properties and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality concerns and improve processes. Follow production and report routine results in Melt Shop and Rolling Mills.
  • Support the development of innovative solutions for quality enhancement. Participate in new product development.
  • Support investigation of customer claims.
  • Prepare reports and documentation of findings and recommendations.

ABOUT G. START: GERDAUS NEXT GENERATION

Gerdau is seeking university students to participate in our G. Start program. G. Start is a paid internship program with the goal of developing students for future technical and managerial positions. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

An Intern with Gerdau must have an eagerness to grow personally and professionally being a part of a global company with more than 120 years of entrepreneurship and achievements in the steel industry. This program is for individuals with high learning agility and willingness to adapt and develop continuously who aim at consistently outperforming in a variety of settings and circumstances.

  • Undergraduate entering third year.
  • Pursing a degree in Mechanical Electrical or related from a recognized accredited college or university.
  • Record of high academic achievement (GPA 3.0 or higher preferred).
  • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities.
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.
  • Candidates much demonstrate leadership potential strong interpersonal skills excellent written and oral communication skills initiative and problem-solving skill.
