Te Whiwhinga Mahi The opportunity

We wish to appoint a Lecturer in English specialising in the long nineteenth century to a permanent position commencing before Semester 1 2026 (or by negotiation).

The successful candidate will develop and teach upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate courses in literature spanning from the late eighteenth century to World War One with a particular focus on nineteenth-century fiction. The ability to also teach poetry and drama is preferred. The appointee will also teach in one or both of our stage one survey courses and may contribute to other stage two/three courses as appropriate.

The workload allocation for this position is 40% teaching 40% research and 20% service.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) permanent role.
The remuneration range is $97831 $116867 depending on qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for productive high-quality research as well as experience in successful undergraduate teaching and readiness to undertake postgraduate supervision.
