The Kōhatu Centre for Hauora Māori is a Centre positioned within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago that seeks to make a difference for Māori Health and equity. Kōhatus functions includes Māori Health teaching research service and Māori student achievement in health. Kōhatu is growing across its functions and activities and is seeking to enhance the range and impact internally and external to the University.

Te mahi The role

We are seeking applicants for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Hauora Māori to be based within Kōhatu. This is a part-time or full-time permanent position located in Ōtepoti Dunedin.

The successful applicant will have a passion and commitment to Hauora Māori by undertaking innovative Hauora Māori research engaging in transformational teaching and contributing to service within Kōhatu. The position will focus on teaching within the Bachelor of Health Science.

Kōhatu has a diverse range of research and research collaborations and this position will have many opportunities to not only develop their own research but also engage with and partner with other researchers. This position will include research that is centred within kaupapa Māori values and contributes to positive health outcomes for Māori.

Kōhatu enjoys a positive relationship with Māori students whānau organisations iwi and hapū alongside wide internal and external networks. This position will engage with our many networks and relationships to support Kōhatu outcomes.

Kā pūkeka me kā wheako Skills and experience

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:
Experience teaching Hauora Māori
Kaupapa Māori research experience.
Postgraduate qualifications in research.
Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
A capacity to work within the context of Māori values including manaakitanga whakawhanaungatanga and whakamana.
Sound academic skills including academic writing and referencing.
Experience supporting tauira Māori.
Excellent people skills and the ability to work within a team.

We are also looking for commitment to Māori Development and the Universitys Māori Strategic Framework as well as genuine interest in Hauora Māori teaching and research.

This is a permanent full-time (1 FTE) role for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer based in Ōtepoti Dunedin.

The appointment range for this role is Lecturer $97377 to $114943 or Senior Lecturer $120494 to $137444.
