The Role

The School of Psychology at Newcastle University ( is pleased to offer a full-time permanent post to join our MSc Sport and Exercise programme.

We are interested in applicants with expertise in Sport and Exercise psychology who can contribute to all aspects of relevant MSc programmes and support teaching and research supervision on our UG programme.

Key Accountabilities

  • Expertise in Sport & Exercise psychology.
  • To undertake teaching module leadership and supervision for our MSc Sport and Exercise psychology and undergraduate psychology programme including act as a personal tutor.
  • To undertake administrative duties as deemed necessary by the Head of School.
  • To contribute to the promotion of the Schools programmes to both current and prospective students (e.g. via Open Days).

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge Skills and Experience

Knowledge

  • Specialist knowledge and interest in Sport & Exercise psychology and qualitative research methods.
  • Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of BPS/HCPC-accredited psychology programmes.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational administrative and planning skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.

Experience

  • Experience of teaching psychology at under and post-graduate level specifically in sport & exercise fields; or relevant professional training experience transferable to HE teaching.
  • Experience in research and/or trainee practitioner supervision.
  • A track record in publishing or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Professional Doctorate in Psychology.
  • HCPC registration/BPS Chartered Psychologist status and/or Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) with Full Membership of the Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology. (Desirable)
  • HE Teaching qualification or equivalent experience e.g. Fellowship of the HEA (FHEA). (Desirable)
