Job Description

LightArt is seeking a talented mechanical/industrial designer to join our team. The prospective applicant will be responsible for designing custom light fixtures and architectural details based on loose initial concepts and sketches provided by a project manager. They will also be responsible for creating proper documentation for designs in the form of bills of materials and dimension drawings using SolidWorks

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule cut parts through autocad.
  • Ensure quantities are accurate prior to sending to the shop floor.
  • Ensure correct parts have been selected.
  • Ensure nesting for material is accurate.
  • Quote material needs.
  • Ability to transfer material
  • Learn how to build all fixtures on the shop floor.
  • Learn how to build out drawings for all products.
  • Work with sales to deliver drawings on time to the customer.
  • Help to design custom products for customers.
  • Learn lighting with LEDs controls and drivers.
  • Troubleshoot production issues.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in mechanical engineering Industrial design or related field (experience may be substituted for degree)
  • 2 years experience using SolidWorks
  • 2 years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment
  • Experience designing weldments and sheet metal components in SolidWorks
  • Experience with large assemblies and drawing sets
  • Experience with creating surface models
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Basic understanding of ANSI/ASME drawing standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • Basic knowledge of hardware and common materials
  • Knowledge of common manufacturing processes (CNC laser router 5-axis router water jet welding riveting adhesives heat forming blow molding etc.)

Desirable Qualities (not required):

  • CNC programming experience in MasterCam for SolidWorks or EnRoute
  • Experience using Solid Works PDM
  • Experience with FEA
  • Project management experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience with other CAD software (Rhino SketchUp Revit etc.)
  • 3D Printing Experience
  • Knowledge of UL and CSA standards
  • Experience with lighting and electrical design
