Under immediate supervision for a period of three (3) to eighteen (18) months participates in a trainee program designed to prepare trainees to work effectively with students with visually impaired and/or multiple disabilities attending Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). Successfully completes assignments in the care and training of ISVI students under close supervision. Participates in job orientation which introduces and acquaints the trainee with the philosophy policies objectives and programs of the Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) and ISVI the total educational and social programs and the residential units the personnel system and conditions of employment the kind and nature of supportive services to students and the physical layout of campus. Assists in and travels with students to ensure the safe transit of students to and from school home classes and activities on and off campus. Attends staff meetings where students progress is evaluated.

6 Weeks of classroom training 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday; Additional on the job training as needed on each of the following shifts (up to 3 weeks in each shift listed below):
