This work unit exists to implement the mission goals and objectives of Colorado Parks and Wildlifes strategic long range and operation plan in order to accomplish the legislative mandate of protecting preserving managing and enhancing the States wildlife and habitat resources in the geographical area comprising Teller and El Paso counties and the Southeast Region office.

Description of Job

The position exists to manage enhance and protect wildlife habitat on Dome Rock Rosemont and Pikes Peak State Wildlife Areas for the use benefit and enjoyment of the hunting and non-hunting public. The tech IV is responsible for working cooperatively with other Area tech IVs district wildlife managers biologists supervisor and partners to identify and implement habitat improvement projects and a wide variety of other wildlife related responsibilities. This position performs routine maintenance of state wildlife areas and other facilities as well as general area equipment maintenance. This position will also develop and implement operational plans work plans and master management plans for SWAs. The position will also maintain the Southeast Region office including routine maintenance projects and repairs. The tech IV will be the main point of contact for any contract repairs and services and help plan and implement capital project improvements for the office compound.

Property Management

Assist with development and implementation of habitat improvements five-year maintenance and legal compliance plans. Assesses SWAs deficiencies and identifies future needs. Assists in determining project priority in accordance with long range plans CPWs Strategic Plan Regional direction and Area work plans. Consult with internal and external wildlife professionals research literature and professional journals on specific project needs. Manages noxious weeds farming food plots and agricultural/grazing leases.


The position administers water and CPW water rights as needed following legal use of water guidelines and requirements.


This position is responsible for working cooperatively with district wildlife managers and biologists to identify and implement habitat improvement projects and a wide variety of other wildlife related responsibilities. This position is responsible for the routine maintenance of state wildlife areas including irrigation wetland management noxious weed control and mitigation and grazing management. The position is responsible for maintenance of state facilities and equipment. This position will also develop and implement operational plans budgets work plans and master management plans for the SWA tracts in its purview and works independently to achieve the goals and objectives in these and in CPWs guiding documents.


Maintenance

Develop and maintain property facilities to include fencing signing parking lot and access points bridges roads toilets water manipulation devices and buildings. Use and maintain vehicles tools and equipment to include heavy equipment farm machinery welders and large power tools. Work with Area staff to maintain the compound including the yard equipment office and buildings. Works with engineers and AWM to assess describe and prioritize capital and equipment needs for properties.


Maintain a large office complex with various lighting plumbing paint and other basic repairs. Work within budget constraints to contract more complex repairs of HVAC systems and electrical repairs.


Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain all pertinent and informational records and property files; maintain tool equipment and capital equipment inventory. Updates and maintains certification skills through attending conferences and training. Acquires goods and services while following appropriate purchasing and fiscal procedures. Process temporary personnel hiring and employment documents. Maintains technical knowledge and qualification in chemical application for weeds. Administers agricultural leases on State Wildlife Areas.

Customer Service
Provide customer service on CPW properties in the field and/or in the office. Provide information on general wildlife related questions and assist on nuisance wildlife calls within the area.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of relevant experience in wildlife management conservation biology ecology wildlife biology natural resource management farming or agriculture or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required.
OR
A combination of related education in Natural Resources or Wildlife Management and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.

Substitutions

Appropriate education in construction or project management natural resources environmental science recreation management business or a related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience with farming practices machinery equipment and tools.
  • Experience with various tools OHV farm and ranch equipment machinery welders etc.
  • Experiencewith plumbing and electrical work.
