ROLE SUMMARY:

Reddam House Sydney is seeking a School Psychologist or School Councillor to join their Secondary (Year 10 11 and 12) campus in Bondi. The role will play a crucial role providing coucilling services and support within the Reddam House school providing individual/group counselling comprehensive social emotional and behavioural assessments strategic interventions and coordinating grade appropriate pastoral care workshops/seminars.

The purpose of this role is to support the emotional social behavioural and academic development of students and aims to create a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters students overall well-being and academic success working alongside other members of the school Pastoral care team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish an Ethical and Evidence-Based Service: Develop and maintain a school psychology service grounded in ethics and evidence-based approaches.
  • Conduct Assessments: Perform comprehensive social emotional and behavioural assessments to identify student needs. While you will not conduct formal psychoeducational assessments (e.g. cognitive and learning assessments) you must be able to recognise when such referrals are necessary and critically evaluate expert reports to tailor recommendations for each students unique school needs.
  • Support Neurodiverse Students: Understand and address the school-based impacts of emotional and learning differences and neurodivergence using a neuroaffirming approach.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with staff and parents to provide clear plain-language explanations and recommendations regarding student needs.
  • Provide Counselling: Offer evidence-based short-term individual/group counselling and therapeutic interventions for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 focusing on school-related issues.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Assess and manage risks for students experiencing suicidal or harmful thoughts or engaging in self-harm.
  • Coordinate Pastoral Care Sessions: Assess the need for age/grade appropriate speakers/workshops and arrange and coordinate their implementation.
  • Coordinate with External Agencies: Liaise with external agencies to ensure comprehensive case management and make referrals as needed.
  • Maintain Records: Keep accurate timely records using confidential online client management systems.
  • Ensure Compliance: Adhere to professional and ethical guidelines ensuring compliance with child protection laws and regulations.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Over 5 years experience working with children and adolescents; school-based experience preferred but not essential.
  • Skilled in identifying neurodivergence and learning differences with a neuroaffirming approach to support.
  • Experienced in managing confidentiality suicide risk and child protection matters.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative perseverance and strategic thinking.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Holds or is in the process of obtaining a valid Working with Children Check.
  • Current First Aid CPR Asthma and Anaphylaxis certifications.
