In partnership with Metrolinx ACCIONA is playing a key role in the design and construction of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) a 9.2-kilometre westward addition to Torontos Line 5 light rail transit network. This major infrastructure project includes seven new stations and installation of rail and systems under a progressive design-build model.

Beyond its technical scope the ECWE project represents a significant investment in sustainable urban mobility expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 5800 tonnes annually and eliminate over 6.5 million vehicle trips each year when combined with the full Line 5.

The Structural Estimator will support the pre-construction and delivery phases of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension LRT. This role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates and budgets for all major structural works including bridges retaining walls stations tunnels and elevated guideways. The estimator will collaborate closely with engineering design procurement and construction teams to ensure cost certainty and effective risk management across the project lifecycle.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural works including bridges stations tunnels retaining walls and elevated guideways.
Perform quantity take-offs from drawings specifications and BIM models.
Develop and maintain unit rates for concrete formwork reinforcing steel structural steel and precast elements.
Collaborate with designers engineers and construction managers to validate constructability sequencing and methodology impacts on cost.
Support value engineering exercises by identifying cost-saving alternatives and structural optimization opportunities.
Analyze subcontractor/vendor pricing and provide bid evaluations.
Support tender preparation and submission for design-build or P3 infrastructure contracts.
Participate in risk and contingency analysis particularly for geotechnical interfaces and large-scale structural components.
Track and update market trends in construction labor materials and structural equipment.
Provide input for project budgets cost planning change orders and claims.

Required Skills and Competencies

Degree or diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Construction Management Quantity Surveying or related discipline is preferred.
7 years of experience in estimating structural works preferably for major infrastructure projects (LRT subway bridges stations etc.).
Strong understanding of structural design codes and construction methods for concrete and steel works.
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. CostX HCSS HeavyBid Sage Estimating or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with BIM/Revit/Civil 3D for structural take-offs is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Strong communication and analytical skills with high attention to detail.

Competencies:

Expertise in estimating structural works for major transit and infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of construction means methods and sequencing for structural works.
Vendor/subcontractor engagement and evaluation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Proactive problem-solving and team collaboration.
