Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for all MEP systems:
Mechanical: HVAC plumbing fire protection tunnel ventilation pumping stations and station mechanical services.
Electrical: traction power switchgear substations lighting cable trays and low-voltage systems.
Plumbing/Fire Protection: water supply drainage pumps sprinklers and life safety systems.
Perform quantity take-offs from drawings specifications and BIM models.
Develop and maintain unit rates for piping ductwork electrical cabling panels and equipment.
Collaborate with designers engineers and construction managers to validate constructability sequencing and methodology impacts on cost.
Support value engineering exercises by identifying cost-saving alternatives and design optimizations.
Analyze subcontractor/vendor pricing and provide bid evaluations.
Support tender preparation and submission for design-build or P3 infrastructure contracts.
Participate in risk and contingency analysis particularly for MEP scope interfaces and system integration challenges.
Track and update market trends in labor materials and MEP equipment.
Provide input for project budgets cost planning change orders and claims.
Required Skills and Competencies
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Electrical or Building Services Engineering Construction Management Quantity Surveying or related discipline is preferred.
7 years of experience in estimating MEP systems preferrably for major infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of MEP system design codes and standards particularly for transportation and transit environments.
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. CostX HCSS HeavyBid Sage Estimating or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with BIM/Revit/Civil 3D for MEP take-offs is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Strong communication and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Competencies:
Expertise in MEP estimating across mechanical electrical and plumbing/fire protection systems.
Strong knowledge of construction means methods and sequencing for complex projects.
Vendor/subcontractor engagement and evaluation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Proactive problem-solving and team collaboration.
