Job Description

Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College is one of the countrys leading schools of health and rehabilitation sciences. Home to more than 1200 undergraduate and 575 graduate students Sargent College combines outstanding faculty and cutting-edge research to provide superb education and clinical experiences. The college has more than 25 on-campus research facilities clinical centers and labs. It offers top-ranked degree programs in speech language and hearing sciences occupational therapy physical therapy health science human physiology behavior and health and nutrition.

The Department of Occupational Therapy within Sargent College is looking for a Department Manager. Reporting to the Department Chair the department manager will work to ensure the efficient management and operational excellence of the academic unit and its dynamic community of faculty researchers and students. Working in collaboration with the Chair and Program Director core responsibilities include management of budgets and coordination of department related activities including helping to arrange student orientation/meetings continuing education conferences direct workflow and workloads of all departmental student employees. Assist with faculty appointments promotions tenure applications recruitments and searches. Maintain departmental documentation in coordination with Department Chair and Program Directors. Schedule plan and direct (as applicable) departmental meetings events and other special projects. Manage student employee payroll submission order supplies and process Concur expense reports. The Department Manager may also support educational and research-related activities on an as-needed basis.

This is a hybrid position requires three days in the office.

Required Skills

Required Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Essential skills also include organization time management strong judgment problem solving exceptional attention to detail.
  • A collaborative work approach with the ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
  • Ability to create positive relationships and work with colleagues faculty staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience using Microsoft Word Excel Outlook Teams and Zoom.
  • Comfortable with learning and troubleshooting new software systems.
  • Able to work independently and accurately.
  • A work approach which strives for continuous improvement creativity flexibility and curiosity.
  • A willingness to explore understand and appreciate diverse perspectives

Preferred Experience:

  • 1-3 years of administrative experience preferably in an academic setting.
