Job Description

Summary

Great Southern Wood Preserving Inc. makers of Yellawood brand Pressure Treated Pine is seeking a Treating Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing treating and related maintenance operations at the Columbus Texas facility including managing personnel performance and employee is a full-time position offering competitive pay and a full benefits package.


Essential Duties:

  • Oversee treating operations to ensure quality minimize cost maximize chemical efficiency and improve cylinder throughput.
  • Increase value to treatments by adjusting treating recipes and identifying cycle adjustments to reduce chemical usage while meeting compliance standards.
  • Champion GSWP Safety and Environmental programs and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and improve overall treater performance through daily reviews weekly cycle tracking and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Review all third-party reporting charge reports and QC data daily; ensure penetration assay results and core pictures are completed (minimum 95%).
  • Run XRF standards daily to ensure compliance with specifications and log results in Framework.
  • Collaborate with the GSWP Treating Operations Support team to identify trends in IQC data and implement improvements.
  • Develop efficacious treating lists to support sales and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain proper white-to-treated and retention-to-retention ratios.
  • Complete weekly turn analyses and take corrective action on negative trends or recurring issues.
  • Conduct yard walks multiple times daily to monitor weathered lumber product placement and white yard organization.
  • Coordinate with receiving on hot loads and manage over-allocated items through the cylinder in a timely manner.
  • Fill in treating roles as needed to cover staffing gaps.
  • Attend plant leadership and safety meetings on a regular basis.
  • Champion 5S and lean operating initiatives in treating and tank farm areas to improve efficiency and housekeeping.
  • Promote and manage a proactive preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime.
  • Review maintenance work orders in Cetaris and ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed on time.
  • Monitor and report monthly plant maintenance spend identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Lead and assist in complex facility and equipment maintenance projects.
  • Manage ordering and maintenance of key treating equipment such as tag guns banders and QC supplies.
  • Support and participate in large maintenance projects requiring multiple personnel.
  • Accompany third-party inspectors and assist with audits as needed.
  • Inventory and order treating chemicals.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering Wood Science Business Management or a related field. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 5 years of experience in treating operations plant maintenance or related industrial leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of treating processes chemical compliance standards and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to delegate build ownership and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to analyze operational data identify trends and implement cost-saving strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to collaborate with plant leadership support teams and frontline staff.
  • Commitment to safety environmental compliance and quality standards.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies and support operations 24/7.
