West Island School is a premier international school in Hong Kong dedicated to providing a high-quality education that fosters inquiry collaboration and personal growth. West Island School is currently seeking to appoint a Teacher of Mathematics to start in August 2026 on a full-time 2-year renewable contract by mutual agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Teacher of Mathematics Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective Mathematics lessons across Years 7-13 (MYP / IGCSE / IB DP).
  • Collaborate with the Head of Mathematics and a team of 10 mathematics teachers to develop innovative teaching units.
  • Utilise inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement.

Pastoral Care

  • Serve as a form tutor/home room teacher to a group of approximately 15 students supporting their holistic development by guiding their academic and social well-being and welfare.

Extra-Curricular Contributions

  • Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.

Expectations

  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning within the teaching team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Utilise the exceptional resources and facilities available to maximize student potential

Educational Requirements & Qualifications

  • A relevant/equivalent Bachelors Degree in Education (with Mathematics) or relevant/equivalent Bachelors Degree in Mathematics or a Mathematics-related field with a Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Education (including Mathematics teaching.)
  • Experience teaching innovative and engaging mathematics lessons across a diverse age and ability range (ages 11-18) with a proven track record as an excellent classroom teacher. Experience teaching the IB MYP and Diploma programmes is advantageous but not a requirement.
  • Commitment to teaching in a diverse community and appreciation of or willingness to learn how global citizenship and service-oriented learning help us grow.

  • A proactive adaptable and passionate team player.
  • Commitment to inclusion and fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Proven experience leading or contributing to extra-curricular programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in developing curriculum and pedagogy.
