Background
Saab AB Training and Simulation provide our customers with realistic ground combat training systems all the way from combined arms on a brigade level down to individual soldiers. Our mission is to improve the training as well as develop new capabilities that enhance the training ability of our customers.
We want to investigate modern ways of expressing data serialization protocols using meta languages so that implementations in different programming languages can be generated from the same source and reduce code duplication.
Description of the master thesis
In the development of embedded products in a large company such as Saab there is invariably the need for different environments such as a development environment and a testing environment. When these environments are built using different programming languages but still handle the same data protocols the protocols need to be implemented several times which introduces more potential errors in the developed systems.
The students performing this master thesis will investigate some of the existing data serialization protocols at Saab and whether existing meta languages such as Google Protocol Buffers or ASN.1 can be used to generate all implementations of the protocols from a single source. The goal is to find a suitable alternative for implementation and if time allows develop a proof-of-concept of the protocol (or a subset of it).
Your profile
This Master Thesis is suitable for 1-2 students. You are at the end of your master studies within AI Engineering Computer Science or similar and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.
