YOUTH & FAMILIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in a collaborative manner to coordinate portions of the Youth and Families recreation programs for youth and teens which may include a variety of sports camps volunteer initiatives grant funded projects instructional activities outdoor programming youth outreach and other services as needed which includes but is not limited to the following:
Serves as a leader for all program staff and partnership organizations.
Schedules teen programs seasonal and varied staff volunteers interns and schedules facility space for recreation services including but not limited to park cabanas gym courts weight rooms leisure pools field space lounges and volunteer sites.
Creates transportation plans for our services that balance capacity for participants with demand for vehicle usage during program times.
Researches and evaluates program offerings to meet best practices and utilizes the service delivery model to make recommendations and align program with the Master Plan.
Manages partnership programs and services as lead representative between the City and community partner.
Is an active member in community engagement and outreach projects for special events and department efforts as lead stakeholder regarding teen development interests needs and ideas.
Maintains an understanding of the needs of youth from several perspectives including cognitive development emotional and social development and educational development.
Delivers high quality customer service and relevant communications to participant families in English and Spanish.
Performs engaging research sessions tailored to youth for grant data collection
Ensures all practical safety measures are observed which includes but is not limited to the following:
Enforces safety standards.
Follows regulations for driving City of Boulder Vehicles and enforces safety measures during program vehicle usage
Meets all licensing and required certifications as needed.
Takes proper care of equipment.
Conducts regular inspections.
Trains part time staff volunteers and interns in safe instruction and instruction methods emergency procedures risk management and documents current CPR/AED/1st Aid and other required certifications.
Performs administrative tasks which includes but is not limited to the following:
Makes recommendations and implements specific portions of the budget.
Seeks alternative funding sources if necessary through fundraising sponsorships and grant writing.
Interviews hires trains non-standard staff volunteers and interns.
Supervises the work of part time staff interns and volunteers and provides regular check ins feedback intern evaluations and professional development opportunities.
Provides feedback to community partners on project specifics and changes.
Writes and revises training manuals and rulebooks for staff.
Compiles and monitors attendance waivers statistics and participant antidotes for grant reporting.
Organizes and submits payroll invoices and purchasing card statements.
Maintains inventory orders supplies and equipment for programs including uniforms equipment first aid and other necessary materials.
Utilizes departmental recreation programming software for facility booking program maintenance and program registration and updates information on the City weather-line and website.
Secures facility space for programs and contractual agreements.
Performs public relations and marketing tasks which includes but is not limited to the following:
Organizes and submits recreation guide and website information. This includes writing program descriptions and developing marketing content as needed.
Produces public education and training presentations for various audiences as needed.
Coordinates marketing efforts with programs facilities and Department marketing staff.
Other:
Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the City.
Promotes a culture of teamwork and synergy through collaboration and communication.
Serves on division department or City committees and task forces.
Updates job knowledge to remain current with trends techniques equipment and regulations.
Generates creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities.
Stays knowledgeable and up to date of trends in field; participates in professional development trainings as outlined in annual performance review.
Maintains and promotes professional ethics (i.e. honesty integrity respect fairness caring) in all conduct.
Knows and complies with all City and Department policies participate in professional trainings and development and adhere to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Dedicated to meet internal and external expectations and requirements; gets information firsthand and uses information to make improvements in services.
Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability and willingness and flexibility to work a schedule that will include evenings and weekends.
Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed.
Ability to give verbal instructions and to inspect the work of employees supervised.
Ability to perform customer service in English and Spanish in a conversant fashion.
Ability to utilize all required safety equipment.
Ability to work tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to work in a highly energetic and dynamic setting.
Skills and general computer experience.
Skills in effective verbal and written communication skills.
Valid drivers license and ability to maintain acceptable motor vehicle record.
Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and familiarity with positive youth development principles and strengths-based approaches to prevention and intervention.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience with program planning implementation marketing and evaluation for teen youth and family and adult programming preferably in a recreation setting.
Knowledge and experience in community development concepts and practices.
Knowledge and familiarity with working with youth from historically underserved backgrounds.
CPR/AED certified.
Experience working with recreation software.
Well-rounded experience in planning skills and the ability to prioritize work independently
Fluent in English and Spanish with strong written and verbal skills
Ability to demonstrate sufficient cultural competency to serve Latino/Hispanic demographics.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in Recreation or related field. Eight (8) years of related experience may substitute for the education requirement.
Four(4) years of experience in recreation or youth services programming

Supervision Exercised: Camp and Program Staff I Camp and Program Staff II Camp and Program Staff Lead
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and mental effort: Must have sufficient strength agility stamina and flexibility to lift carry or move a variety of objects up to 20 be able to work while crouching kneeling bending stooping or assisting children for long periods of have sufficient hearing to be able to hear and discriminate differing sounds in a variety of vision to be able to discriminate between colors size and type of objects and people both close and distant.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Machines and equipment used but not limited to: Frequently uses sports equipment and standard office equipment including personal computers telephones calculators and copy/fax machines. Use of city vehicle.
