Job Description

Caseworker (Financial Capability)

  • Full time 38 hours per week based in Alice Springs
  • Ongoing subject to continued funding
  • $102820 $107473 per annum plus 12% super
  • SCHADS Level 5

NB: Regular remote travel (one week on one week off) is part of the role requirements.

About MoneyMob Talkabout

MoneyMob Talkabout is a majority First Nations led not-for-profit organisation providing financial counselling and capability casework financial literacy and energy efficiency education and community development programs. Additional cultural governance comes from an Anangu advisory board embedded in our organizational structure. We are funded to deliver services to Anangu in Adelaide the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in northern South Australia and in the Northern Territory.

About the Role

  • In this rewarding role youll deliver trauma-informed holistic casework to support clients in achieving financial resilience and wellbeing.
  • Youll support people to develop budgeting and saving skills access concessions and entitlements obtain ID apply for No Interest Loans complete low-income tax returns and set up safe bill payment arrangements.
  • Youll provide one-to-one financial literacy education and organise group workshops capitalising on teachable moments when clients are engaged.
  • Youll also support and mentor casual Anangu financial capability workers in their learning and development.
  • Youll connect people to financial counsellors or other agencies when debt or consumer issues are present.

The Caseworker (Financial Capability) should have:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Services (higher qualifications highly regarded).
  • At least 2 years experience supporting clients with complex needs preferably in a cross-cultural or First Nations context.
  • Strong case management and counselling skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and its importance when working with First Nations communities.
  • Unrestricted drivers licence and willingness to complete financial literacy training.
  • (Desirable) Ability to speak Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara.
  • Substantial experience working with remote First Nations Australians

In Your First Six Months Youll:

  • Get to know the town organisation and team
  • Undertake First Nations cultural education
  • Meet and start working with clients and Anangu colleagues.
  • Travel through beautiful desert country to surrounding remote communities
  • Experience desert warmth and humour

Note: remote work requires good psychological and physical fitness. Due to the demands of the environment this type of work is not recommended for people who have or are experiencing significant and unresolved trauma/mental ill health major upheavals in life circumstances or certain chronic illnesses.
