Job Description Summary
We have an exciting opportunity within our Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) business for an experienced Supervisor with a strong background in GIS/ Mechanical Engineering and sound Electrical understanding. The role is flexible on location as it will involve frequent travel to client sites across the UK and internationally.
As a GIS Site Supervisor you will be responsible for overseeing the safe high-quality installation commissioning and maintenance of GIS equipment ensuring compliance with GEs standards and client requirements. You will act as the key link between the Product Unit Service teams and client ensuring smooth project delivery while safeguarding safety quality cost and environmental standards.
This role combines technical oversight team leadership and client liaison offering the chance to work on high-profile infrastructure projects while shaping best practices on-site.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Project & Site Management
Supervise GIS installation commissioning and maintenance ensuring compliance with GE standards of health safety quality and environmental protection.
Manage daily operations and field resources to deliver projects on time on budget and to specification.
Conduct investigative site visits reporting on equipment condition failures or maintenance needs.
Prepare and issue RAMS NCRs TQs and site instructions; ensure accurate documentation and compliance with GE quality governance.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and develop GIS installation teams including subcontractors technicians and apprentices.
Support evaluations appraisals and skills development to maintain a competent and motivated workforce.
Foster a culture of safety continuous improvement and accountability across site teams.
Client & Product Liaison
Act as the main interface between GIS Product Units Service Units and client representatives for product or installation issues.
Provide timely reporting on project progress product issues and engineering variations to Project Managers.
Promote strong working relationships to resolve issues quickly and maintain customer satisfaction.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Ensure the integrity quality and reliability of GIS installations.
Raise and manage nonconformities (NCPs) driving root cause resolution and improvements.
Contribute to lessons learned best practices and continual improvement initiatives for future projects.
The Role
Extensive travel across the UK and occasional overseas travel.

Requires a proactive hands-on leader who can manage both the technical and people aspects of complex site operations.
Required Qualifications
Ideally C&G/ONC/HND in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
IOSH Managing Safely
- Substation Primary Plant Construction and installation techniques
- Substation secondary wireman experience
- This role requires someone who has substation secondary wireman experience.
- Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and a good understanding of the roles and duties of the Principal Contractor and Contractor
- Be comfortable working at heights and confined spaces.
- Be happy working away from home and travelling UK wide and possibly overseas when required.
Desired Characteristics
Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems. Ability to document plan market and execute programs. Established site management skills.
