Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic Design & Technology ECT looking to begin your teaching career in a supportive and ambitious school


A high-performing secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking a motivated Early Career Teacher (ECT) of Design & Technology to join their forward-thinking department from January. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire students with practical and creative learning while developing professionally in a nurturing environment.

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position starting in January. As a DT ECT you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 with opportunities to specialise in areas such as Product Design Resistant Materials Graphics or Food Technology depending on your training and strengths. The school offers a comprehensive ECT induction programme pairing you with a dedicated mentor regular CPD sessions and reduced teaching loads to support your professional development. You will also be encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities such as engineering clubs design competitions and STEM fairs providing opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom.

The school is a popular and oversubscribed 1118 secondary with approximately 1400 students on roll including a thriving sixth form. The Design & Technology department is one of the schools most dynamic faculties housed in a modern block with fully equipped workshops CAD/CAM suites 3D printers laser cutters and food technology kitchens. The team is collaborative creative and experienced in supporting new teachers ensuring that Early Career Teachers are fully integrated into the department from day one.

Students are highly engaged in DT with strong uptake at GCSE and a range of enrichment opportunities including technology exhibitions robotics competitions and partnerships with local businesses and colleges. We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an Early Career Teacher (ECT) of Design & Technology with a relevant degree

  • Holds or is working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Has the creativity and enthusiasm to deliver engaging practical lessons

  • Is committed to differentiating teaching to support learners of all abilities

  • Is a proactive team player and keen to contribute to the wider life of the school
