Our story began during a road trip in the 1990s where our founders Will and Andy travelled across America collecting vintage items while living out of motels. They started purchasing vintage clothing in the USA and selling it wholesale which eventually led to the creation of stores. From there they began designing reworked vintage pieces and thus Motel was born.
Over 30 years and a team of 200 people later every piece of clothing we make is created with the same spirit of fun freedom and adventure as the road trip that first defined the brand. Were still ambitious and independent but now were a global team - we work from an operational base in Worcester a design studio in London and a creative studio in Bali.
The role
As Motels Commercial Trading Planner youll operate as the vital link between our Buy & Merch and Marketing teams helping to lead product decisions across a range of key content channels.
Main tasks & responsibilities
Commercial Planning & Trading Strategy
- Build and own the short- and long-term trading calendar aligning marketing campaigns product launches and seasonal moments with revenue targets.
- Partner with product and merchandising teams to forecast demand optimise product assortment and identify trading opportunities.
- Shape promotional and pricing strategies in collaboration with commercial finance and marketing stakeholders.
Go-to-Market (GTM) Execution
- Translate product roadmaps (flows) into actionable GTM plans that balance brand performance and commercial priorities.
- Ensure marketing campaigns are supported with the right product positioning inventory messaging and offers.
- Coordinate launch plans across channels (digital retail CRM paid media etc.) to maximise commercial impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the central point of contact between marketing product sales and e-commerce teams.
- Champion customer and market insights in trading decisions ensuring commercial plans resonate with target audiences.
- Work closely with analytics teams to monitor performance and optimise trading levers in real-time.
Performance & Optimisation
- Track and report on key trading KPIs including revenue margin sell-through and promotional ROI providing recommendations to improve future plans.
- Continuously test and learn refining commercial strategies based on performance data and competitive landscape.
About you
Proven experience in commercial planning trading or go-to-market roles ideally in a consumer retail or digital business.
Strong understanding of marketing strategy and product lifecycle with experience bringing products or campaigns to market.
Commercially astute with strong analytical skills and the ability to turn insights into action.
Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills able to align multiple teams behind a shared commercial vision.
Creative thinker with a strategic mindset comfortable balancing brand performance and revenue objectives.
