Job Title: Distribution Center Worker Food and Nutrition Services
Status: Full-time
Reports to: Distribution Center Manager
Terms: (Grade 2 Step 1)

Hours: 6:00 am to 2:00 pm*
Schedule: 12 Month Position
Overview:
Founded in 1647 Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. With approximately 57000 students from over 114 different countries nearly 8000 employees and an annual budget of $973 million BPS is the largest district in Massachusetts and one of the most diverse as well.
Currently BPS has 128 schools utilizing three food service delivery models. Forty six (46) schools have full service kitchens with full time cafeteria managers and subordinate staff. Seventy eight (78) schools are satellite kitchen sites receiving meals from an outside vendor contracted by the 2017-2018 school year four schools participated in a pilot program introducing a new model called My Way Café. In the 2018-2019 school year this pilot model will be expanded to an additional 26 schools. The My Way Cafe model is supported by a Central Distribution Center.
Department Facts:
- Mission: offer students safe wholesome nutritious enjoyable meals to fuel academic excellence
- Meals served: approximately 23500 breakfasts and 35600 lunches served daily; approximately 7 -8000 after-school meals served daily; 22000 total summer meals
- BPS utilizes Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) which enables the district to provide free meals to all Boston students
Job Responsibilities:
- Efficiently and accurately fulfills school orders for shipment ensuring the correct number and type of product is loaded and sent to schools (pick pack ship)
- Assemble various types of food for shipment
- Transport orders to delivery platform with material handling equipment
- Mark/tag all packages shipped
- Transport products received to designated storage areas
- Consistently maintain product quality and integrity
- Ensure adherence to food safety and facility safety
- Perform quality control checks to ensure standards are met
- Take corrective action as necessary on timely basis and in accordance with Food & Nutrition Services standards communicating inferior products or procedures
- Able to work in team oriented environment
- Follow all safety and sanitation requirements
- Keep work environment clean at all times - maintains cleanliness of distribution bins and equipment in addition to work preparation and break areas.
- Completes all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Education: preferred at least through high school/GED including basic computer skills
- 2-5 years of work experience including in warehouse preferred
- Food Handler Certificate
- Must be able to read and count accurately detail oriented
- Able to calculate basic math
- Physical: Walking standing reaching above shoulder level stooping lifting carrying bending and pivoting.
- Capable of sitting standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Ability to follow directions well
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Flexible about tasks and able to multitask and maintain a high productivity level
- Experience in fast-paced environment
- Reliable and dependable
- Capable of working full day in a refrigerated environment - must be able to work in a Multi-Temp warehouse ranging from sub-zero to the ambient temperature of the outdoors for the entire shift without restrictions.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with a range of fellow workers
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in inventory software databases and systems
- Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Forklift License/Certification
- Experience with warehouse equipment
- Spanish Language
- Food Safety Certification (Managers)
