Position: Heavy Equipment Operator II
Reports To: Excavation Foreman
Department: D17 - Excavation
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator Level II plays a critical role in supporting SC Swiderskis multi-family residential construction projects by safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy equipment to prepare develop and maintain construction sites. This position ensures that grading excavation backfilling trenching material handling and related site preparation activities are completed to specification and in compliance with safety standards. Operators at higher levels also provide training mentoring and advanced technical leadership in equipment use site logistics and transportation of equipment between job sites. This 3-level role grows in independence knowledge skills abilities and responsibilities as you progress through each level
Duties/Responsibilities II:
Level II:
- The Heavy Equipment Operator Level II performs through their ability and experience all manner of site preparation services for SC Swiderski Construction and its affiliated companies. They provide the foundation of the Excavation Team in heavy equipment operation and transportation. They are reliable consistent and require minimal assistance once theyve been tasked by their Excavation Foreman. They know what they are doing and can be counted on to perform to expectations accurately and consistently.
- Safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment including bulldozers excavators graders and cranes as needed.
- Read and interpret site plans grades and stake layouts to execute excavation and grading with precision.
- Conduct thorough equipment inspections and complete basic preventative maintenance.
- Lead small-scale excavation and site preparation tasks with minimal oversight.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of Level I Operators and general labor staff in safe equipment practices.
- Collaborate with Site-Superintendents to plan daily equipment utilization.
- Load secure and transport heavy equipment to and from construction sites using company trucks and trailers.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA DOT and company safety standards.
- Provide feedback on site logistics equipment allocation and project efficiency.
Requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Level II
- 46 years of heavy equipment operation experience in construction
- CDL (Class A or B) and experience transporting heavy equipment on public roads
- Proficient in operating multiple types of heavy equipment
- Proficient in use and operation of Corrected GPS and other geolocation systems
- Ability to read blueprints grade stakes and site drawings
- Strong awareness of underground utilities and safe excavation practices
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred
- Good communication skills for team coordination.
Work Schedule:
4550 hours per week MondayFriday with occasional Saturdays as project needs dictate. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines. Must be able to travel between job sites in Central Wisconsin. Must be available for regular in-state travel with occasional overtime or overnight stays depending on job site location.
Work Environment:
Primarily outdoor construction sites with exposure to dust noise weather and heavy equipment traffic. Collaborative safety-focused team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have a valid Class D drivers license to work on our job/property sites.
- CDL (Class A or B) and experience transporting heavy equipment on public roads
- Regularly lift up to 75 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting in and operating heavy machinery.
- Ability to climb in/out of equipment and navigate uneven terrain.
- Tolerance for outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Must be available for regular in-state travel work 45-50 hours per week (Monday-Friday) with occasional overtime or overnight stays depending on job site location.
