The Women Child and Youth Services team at Te Whatu OraTairāwhiti is seeking a Paediatrician to join five other specialists in a seaside New Zealand community.
The paediatric service at Te Whatu OraTairāwhiti is a small dynamic team looking to employ a suitably qualified Paediatrician. This role will work collaboratively and cohesively with the wider Paediatric team to provide effective services for the Tairāwhiti region.
The Paediatric team provides inpatient outpatient and community services to the Tairāwhiti population (approx. 52000 with 50% Māori ethnicity). There is a level 2 Neonatal Unit with tertiary support from Waikato.
The job includes general and community paediatrics requiring skills in managing neonates acutely unwell children children with chronic disease and behavioural disorders.
The employee will be required to work an average of 80 hours per fortnight. It is expected that you will participate in an on-call roster including evenings and weekends. The Employees will share call by mutual agreement according to a departmental schedule drawn up in discussion with other Paediatrics colleagues. The usual availability required will be a one in six roster. However the frequency of call will vary depending upon leave taken and vacancies on the roster.

The successful applicant will have experience working in a peripheral centre and ideally have had experience at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti.

Gisborne Hospital is the base hospital for the wide geographical area Tairāwhiti extending up the East Cape of New Zealand creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic and skilled Paediatrician. Providing healthcare to a population of 52000 Te Whatu OraTairāwhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive medical and surgical services. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Wellington and with Starship Childrens Hospital in Auckland.
Tairāwhiti is a bicultural community with strong Māori history and culture. Gisborne is situated on the beautiful East Coast with a great climate sandy beaches and good surf.
