Major Duties :1. Performs fundamental financial and credit
analysis using publicly available information
integrating conclusions with outside opinions
and rating agency data. Recommends suitability
of securities for individual portfolios and commingled
funds.
2. Establishes provisional investment limits
within delegated authority level and pending
formal submission through credit committee
approval process.
3. Ensures that portfolio control systems are
maintained and updated on a continuous basis
and that assigned issuers and sectors are reviewed
analyzed and documented to fulfill internal/external
regulatory requirements.
4. Performs special analysis projects such as
valuation of nonmarketable debt securities
exchange offerings and credit risk evaluation
of derivative financial products.
5. Negotiates covenant protection and other terms
and conditions in private placement purchases of
debt securities to address credit risk aspects of
such purchases.
6. Oversees and coordinates portfolio review
projects such as the Unrated Security and Below
Investment Grade Reviews.
7. Establishes communication links with outside
rating agencies and other fixed income analysts.
8. Participates with portfolio managers on
assigned committees to develop investment
strategy relating to cash and fixed income
securities.
9. Chairs one of the credit subcommittees
organizing the schedule and work assignment
of other analysts and preparing the agenda and
minutes of subcommittee meetings. Serves as
voting member on other credit committees.
10. Provides training to less experienced staff
members to enhance their understanding of credit
risk evaluation and helps in developing their
analytical skills.
Knowledge :Knowledge of business and financial markets
financial and credit analysis and accounting
principles and techniques usually acquired
through formal education and work experience
are required to evaluate credit risk in individual
issuers and industry sectors. Knowledge of
economic conditions and their impact on the
capability of debt issuers to service debt
instruments and legal matters related to
structuring debt instruments usually acquired
through formal education and work experience
are required to evaluate credit risk. Analytical
and presentation skills are required to interpret
offering statements and legal documents
describing securities issues and to prepare and
present analytical reports. Computer skills are
required to gather and present information.
Leadership skills are required to provide
guidance for less experienced analysts.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of fixed income securities or credit related financial analysis experience. Experience within the high yield space specifically in the Technology Media or Telecommunications space is preferred.
Salary Range:
$160100 - 272300 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
