THE POSITION:
Public Safety Dispatchers in the Sheriffs Office assist community members and agencies with emergency needs by receiving and dispatching calls received for law enforcement fire service and emergency medical service personnel.Public Safety Dispatcher performs a range of journey level duties that assists community members and agencies with emergency needs by receiving and dispatching calls received via phone and/or text; receives caller information relays information to appropriate unit or agency and provides assistance to callers as needed; logs call information into computer; monitors activity of all public safety units to determine status of incident and location of units and provides pre-arrival medical instructions.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:High school diploma GED or equivalent AND

Experience:Eighteen (18) months of full-time work experience involving emergency service dispatching for law enforcement fire services or medical dispatching.

Previous experience with Sunridge RIMS CAD and possession of an Emergency Medical Dispatching Certificate is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants are required to demonstrate basic typing speed of 40 WPM by passing of a County approved test.


DOCUMENT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:
If you possess aPOST-certified Public Safety Dispatchers Basic Course certification please attach at time of applying for the position.

Applicants may submit a typing certificate. If you choose to submit a typing certificate the typing certificate must contain a minimum NET speed of (40) words per minute. It must be a timed 3 - 5 minute test include the gross number of words typed per minute and the number of errors. It must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency with an examiners signature. Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.(Candidates will be provided a typing through the recruitment process).

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

LICENSING CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employees are required to obtain the following within the 12-month probationary period:

  • California P.O.S.T. Dispatch Basic certification
  • C.L.E.T.S. Terminal Operator certification
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (EMD)

All licenses certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class. Failure to do so may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.


SELECTION PROCESS:
10/10/25 5:00pm (PST) -Deadline to submit application and required documents for first application review.

Retired annuitants may be eligible to work more than 960 hours if the appointment satisfies the conditions of Government Code Section 7522.56(j).
