Summary: |
The School Adjustment Counselor works to support a safe and welcoming learning environment for students. The School Adjustment Counselorposition supports students with many issues such as social/emotional substance use/abuse academic and post-graduate planning through the use of counseling consulting coordinating and managing. |
Qualifications: |
Required Qualifications: - Masters degree in counseling guidance social work psychology or related field
- Appropriate DESE licensure (School Adjustment Counselor)
- At least three years of experience working with adolescents in a counseling capacity
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
- Understanding of special education regulations and laws
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use technology effectively
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with numerous stakeholders

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To): |
- Help students resolve such personal emotional and social problems that impede learning.
- Conduct social skill development groups individual or group counseling.
- Provide case management and crisis intervention for students in need
- Provide services to students as outlined in individual education plan (IEPs) or 504 plans
- Collaborate with staff members on developing interventions for students in need
- Support the development of programs and activities that promote student engagement and a positive school climate
- Complete all required paperwork in accordance with district/school policies and federal and state law.
- Consistent reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
- Responsible for implementing other job related duties as needed

Work Environment: - Majority of work is performed in a school environment
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to assist with student behavioral needs as necessary
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds
- Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
