Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Centre Manager to join Te Tātai Hauora o Hine - National Centre for Womens Health Research Aotearoa on a permanent full-time role.

The role of Centre Manager is to oversee high quality efficient and timely support for Centre team in Te Tātai Hauora o Hine. The role includes management of all aspects of the operational functions of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine in particular the Centres financial HR facilities-related and administrative support activities.

The Centre Manager will ensure effective and efficient support to its academic staff and students and manage relationships with the wider University and external organisations.

The Centre Manager is expected to be an effective member of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine leadership team working alongside the Deputy Director reporting to the Manutaki - Director.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and support the strategic direction and objectives of the Centre.
  • Develop support and implement systems and processes to support the strategic goals of the centre.
  • Provide high quality and timely advice on operational matters such as financial human resource facilities and administration management.
  • Oversee Centre Administrator(s) role/s to ensure efficient and effective Centre administration activities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a Centre Communications strategy.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Centre-specific policies.
  • Assist with stakeholder management and engagement. E.g. centre partnerships and relationships with (but not limited to) Te Herenga Waka the Health Research Council Te Whatu Ora and Manatū Hauora.
  • Promote strong collegial and friendly environment for staff and students of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine.
  • Lead staff of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine in a manner that supports the Universitys commitment to provide a safe workplace (including health and safety practices).

You will be a highly motivated and organised individual who will thrive and enjoy busy and collaborative environments. You will clearly and concisely communicate with a wide range of people in all situations both orally and in writing. This new role provides a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to be involved in a busy centre supporting a team undertaking meaningful research.

Key requirements:

  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its obligations to Māori as tangata whenua and Treaty partners.
  • Proven experience in management or administration preferably in a research or tertiary environment.
  • A good understanding of the broader funding landscape and revenue generation strategies.
  • Proven financial and budget management experience.
  • Proven experience with tertiary institution financial and HR software (e.g. Oracle).
  • A good understanding of research activities and processes.
  • Excellent written English skills.
  • Proven project co-ordination experience and attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in customer service and/or maintaining external stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to undertake a wide range of tasks with competing priorities at times independently and have a high attention to detail.
  • Passionate about the vision of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • An understanding of the research funding environment.
  • Proven experience of strategic thinking and adapting existing systems and processes to achieve identified priorities.
  • Experience contributing to human resources practices and an understanding of health and safety management.
