The Opportunity:

As an iOS Engineer at Ground News youll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of readers discover navigate and compare the news. Youll work closely with our Head of Mobile and engineering team to design build and optimize features that empower our users to see every side of the story.

This is a hands-on role where youll bring fresh ideas to a fast-growing consumer app balancing technical excellence with a deep care for user experience. From performance optimization to building new discovery features your work will directly impact how people engage with the worlds news.

You will be working as part of a cross-functional team driving our core features from start to finish. This role essentially owns the iOS product. You will get full visibility on design and UX and also exposure to the downstream analytics and users feedback. Its a broader role than a typical iOS developer at a startup.

What youll do:

Develop maintain and optimize the Ground News iOS app using Swift and modern iOS frameworks.
Collaborate with product design and backend teams to deliver seamless and intuitive user experiences.
Drive performance improvements ensuring the app runs smoothly at scale across devices.
Design and implement new features from article discovery to personalized user tools that make the news more transparent and accessible.
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions contributing to iOS engineering best practices.
Troubleshoot debug and resolve production issues with a focus on quality.

What youll bring:

5 years of professional experience building and shipping iOS apps.
Proficiency in Swift Xcode and iOS frameworks (UIKit SwiftUI Combine Core Data etc.).
A solid foundation in mobile app architecture design patterns (MVC MVVM etc.) and RESTful API integration.
An eye for detail when it comes to usability accessibility and polished UI.
Experience with Git CI/CD pipelines and collaborative code practices.
Familiarity with analytics tools and A/B testing for mobile apps.
A self-starter mindset: youre curious adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working at product-centric organizations and consumer-facing products at scale.

Bonus Points:

Interest in the news media ecosystem or social impact products.
Exposure to push notifications deep linking and offline-first experiences.
Were a Google shop: Overall fluency in Google tools.

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $108000 $135000 $162000 CAD (minmidmax). Your final offer will take into account various factors including your skills experience qualifications and internal parity.
