The UBC Department of Pediatrics based at the BC Childrens Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) invites applications for a Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Pascal Lavoie. Dr. Lavoie leads a multidisciplinary translational research program focused on understanding immunity to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants and children with the overarching goal of improving prevention and outcomes of RSV infection.

The Lavoie Lab at BCCHR is part of a dynamic research environment at UBC integrating clinical and fundamental science to address urgent pediatric health challenges. Current projects include defining cellular and molecular mechanisms of immunity to RSV identifying biomarkers of protective immune responses and exploring novel vaccine and therapeutic strategies.

The Research Associate will play a central role in the planning development and implementation of RSV-focused projects in the Lavoie Lab. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinician-researchers scientists research coordinators trainees and laboratory staff to design and carry out studies that bridge basic immunology and clinical application.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

-Lead and contribute to research projects investigating immune responses to RSV infection and vaccination.

Design and execute advanced immunological and molecular assays (e.g. multiparameter flow cytometry single-cell sequencing multiplex cytokine/antibody assays).


-Establish systems immunology assays and apply those assays including single-cell omics approaches to characterize immune responses in human samples.

-Analyze and interpret high-dimensional immunological and transcriptomic datasets preparing results for publication and presentation.

-Prepare and lead the development of manuscripts grant applications

technical reports and scientific presentations.

-Supervise graduate students postdoctoral fellows and research staff providing guidance on experimental design and data interpretation.

-Present research findings at national and international conferences.

-Keep up-to-date with technological advances and the scientific literature relevant to RSV and pediatric immunology.

-Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

-A PhD in Immunology Microbiology or a related biomedical field with a minimum of five years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.

-Demonstrated expertise in human immunology viral infections or vaccine research with a strong record of publications in high-impact journals.

-Experience conducting systems immunology assays and single-cell transcriptomics in human samples including downstream analyses.

-Demonstrated ability to perform computational data analysis of transcriptomic datasets (single-cell and/or bulk).

-Expertise in advanced immunological techniques (flow cytometry B and T cell functional assays antigen-specific immune assays cytokine/antibody profiling).

-International research experience is considered a strong asset.

-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize and present complex data clearly.

-Ability to communicate effectively with fundamental and clinical research audiences.

-Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.

-Capacity to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.

POSITION DETAILS

This position will begin November 1 2025. It is a one-year term appointment subject to annual renewal.

The salary for this position will be $90000 per annum.
