THE OFFICE

TheOffice of Sustainability & Environment(OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable equitable and carbon-neutral future. TheGreen New Deal(GND) for Seattle focuses on developing equitable solutions to substantially reduce climate pollution create jobs develop solutions that support healthy and resilient communities advance racial equity and invest in communities disproportionately impacted by racial economic and environmental inequities. The Green New Deal for Seattle started as a community-led initiative that builds off the Equity and Environment Initiative to ensure that all people and communities benefit from Seattles environmental progress and communities most affected by environmental injustice are engaged in setting environmental priorities designing strategies and tracking progress.

Job Responsibilities

THE JOB

We are recruiting for two brand new Environmental Justice Planning & Development Specialist positions. If you have furthered environmental justice/climate justice work strong project/program coordination skills a track record for fostering respectful and collaborative partnerships and demonstrated your concern for and ability to communicate information with the end-user in mind please keep reading.

You will get to work on:

  • Implementation of the Indigenous-Led Climate Initiatives Fund and Seattles Environmental Justice Fund
  • Building collaborative partnerships to inform the Climate Action Plan Update
  • Program coordination and management of the Environmental Justice Funds granting work and technical support to awardees

To be most effective you have:

  • Lived or work experience with Indigenous people or Urban Natives.
  • Advanced Environmental/Climate Justice work.
  • Created communication materials and shared information that is proactive approachable and provides clear directions to support partners needs.
  • Engaged built relationships and facilitated collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Coordinated complex projects/programs with attention to detail gathering data reporting results and using evaluation loops to continually improve processes.
  • Supported RFP cycles contracting and reporting
  • Provided capacity-building and compliance support to grant awardees


Qualifications

In addition to the qualities mentioned above you will need to possess the following required qualifications (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class):


Three years of experience in planning and research related to one of the following: public health land use urban economics human services environmental issues conservation urban planning community development community organizing policy development community outreach and engagement community research partnership development conflict resolution volunteer coordination or other work directly related to City planning and development work.

OR

Two years of experience in planning and research related to one of the following: public health land use urban economics human services environmental issues conservation urban planning community development community organizing policy development community outreach and engagement community research partnership development conflict resolution volunteer coordination or other work directly related to City planning and development work and an associates degree in urban planning urban design environmental studies public administration sustainability community development public health social work or organizational development.

OR


One year of experience in planning and research related to one of the following: public health land use urban economics human services environmental issues conservation urban planning community development community organizing policy development community outreach and engagement community research partnership development conflict resolution volunteer coordination or other work directly related to City planning and development work and a bachelors degree in urban planning urban design environmental studies public administration sustainability community development public health social work or organizational development.

Additional Information

This job is classified as a Planning & Development Specialist 1 and the salary range is $44.01 - $ Rules will determine the salary placement of current regular City employees. New employees start at Step 1 in this 5-step salary schedule. These positions are represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with PROTEC 17 Professionals Unit.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management.
