Title: Staff Accountant

Reports To: AVP for Financial Services/Controller

Job Summary
Responsible for general ledger accounting including journalizing account reconciliation analysis of accounts financial reporting and other duties as assigned. The Staff Accountant provides support and knowledge for all administrative and academic departments throughout the University.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Current Asset accounting from cash short-term investments and receivables sourced from auxiliary revenues gifts and donations student accounts and financial aid (including government and non-profit sources).
- Payroll accounting including tax entries for employee and employer payroll employee benefits and deductions employer-sponsored benefits 403(b) retirement contributions and fringe benefits.
- Internal audit and reconciliation of bank accounts investments cash payroll and benefit payables student account receivables student account refunds financial aid scholarships and receivables gifts receivables and student loan programs.
- Oversight and tracking of specialized student scholarships and collected gifts pending designation.
- Development of financial reports in support of budgeting including spend analysis and cash-accrual conversion reports.
- Oversight of institutional merchant credit card terminals including PCI-DSS compliance compliance attestation and policy training in consultation with applicable University technology committees.
- Billing and receivables tracking for related third parties student groups and vendors including custody/agency accounts.
- Administration process development internal audit and university-wide technical support for university purchasing systems (Lowes US Bank Corporate Card US Bank Instant Card).
- Coordination of monthly chargebacks for overhead and administrative departments.
- Internal audit and reconciliation for Acorn to Oak including support for the development of consolidated financial statements.
- Creation of year-end audit preparation entries to recognize outstanding assets and liabilities and other adjustments as needed in the development of financial statements.
- Development of training materials policies and process documents for institutional use.
- Special projects accounting and reconciliation as determined by the Controller.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree in accounting; or equivalent combination of education and work experience in accounting.
Experience
- Three to five years of accounting experience.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP principles of accounting and general ledger accounting.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word Excel).
- Working knowledge and experience with business analysis software tools to bring efficiencies to accounting operations and reporting outputs.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of electronic data management tools and reporting.
- Excellent math aptitude and attention to detail.
- Proficient 10-key and typing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of staff faculty students and outside stakeholders.
- Ability to support a diverse work environment.
- Professionalism discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Management Accountant Certified Public Accountant or Certified Global Management Accountant.
- Higher education tax-exempt organization and fund accounting experience.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in an office environment and is sedentary in nature.
- Constant sitting hearing seeing talking and repetitive movement of the wrists hands and fingers.
- Frequent standing walking and climbing stairs.
- Occasional exposure to weather elements when walking from building to building on campus.
- Occasional pushing pulling carrying or lifting up to 25 pounds.
