JOB TITLE:

Academic Advising Professional Senior

JOB PURPOSE:

This position will coordinate and administer career and academic advising functions for students in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and will also teach the ENR and ESS section of our internship course a course that provides students with practical experience in environmental and natural resource policy management and decision-making through supervised professional internships during the fall and spring semesters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Undergraduate Advising

  • Provide academic personal and/or career advising to students.
  • Responsible for review and approval of student forms as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform degree checks as directed.
  • Assist with the program activities goals and objectives; act as liaison as directed within assigned program.
  • Interpret and administer university policies and procedures related to academic and/or career processes.
  • Provide direct assistance to students through advising; conduct follow-up sessions as necessary.

Professional & Applied Experiences

  • Provide one-on-one career advising in appointment-based and drop-in formats on topics including but not limited to career and major exploration job and internship search skills (networking resume cover letter interviewing job offer negotiation) and the graduate school application process.
  • Design and lead innovative student career programming workshops and events and employer engagement opportunities.
  • Market and promote career education through social media newsletters the Haub School website and by maintaining the Haub Schools virtual career center webpage.
  • Teach ESS/ENR 4970 Internship course in fall and spring.
  • Develop contacts and maintain relationships with potential employers.
  • Stay up to date with employer and industry trends desired skills and news for related career fields.
  • Develop tracking systems for student participation in professional and applied experiences and industry partners who offer opportunities; coordinate evaluation process for students and employers.
  • Develop plan to integrate career education into the academic experience from year one.
  • Conduct a bi-annual alumni survey and maintain an alumni database.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in limited college recruitment events ceremonies and other events.
  • Assist with special projects as directed.
  • Serve on committees as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree in Counselor Education Counseling or Psychology-related program or a related field

Experience: 3 years work-related experience

Other:Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with theUniversity Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current knowledge of industries related to the environment and natural resources for supporting student career development and experiential learning opportunities
  • Experience working with student populations
  • Masters degree in a relevant field
  • Teaching experience
