As Director of Essential Services youll lead a team of staff and Social Work/CPRS interns. Youll keep programs organized and sustainable support your team through hard moments and build systems that let everyone do their best work. This role calls for a steady leader who can balance the urgent with the strategic and who leads with fairness accountability and respect.
What Youll Do
Lead & Mentor: Supervise coach and grow a team of 8 staff and interns. Build trust set clear expectations and create space for people to succeed.
Build & Shape: Lead the continued development of the Day Program creating a safe welcoming space for unhoused individuals and connecting them to resources and stability.
Keep Essential Services Running: Supervise the receptionist/front desk and oversee A Hand Up Outreach/Day Program and Basic Needs; ensuring community members can access mail meals documents and support in a safe welcoming environment.
Stay Organized: Manage budgets contracts and program reporting including timely and accurate grant reporting so services stay funded and accountable.
Ensure Crises Are Managed Well: Ensure urgent issues are managed effectively in the lobby at the front desk or out in the community by stepping in to guide your team with calm and compassion.

What Were Looking For
Required
Masters in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program (required to supervise Social Work interns).
At least 2 - 3 years leading people and programs in social services.
Direct experience working with people navigating homelessness behavioral health or justice-involved communities.
You can juggle structure and urgency keeping budgets and reports on track while supporting staff in a busy lobby.
Youve led teams through tough moments with calm compassion and clear expectations.
You know how to build trust with people from many backgrounds and treat everyone with respect.
Preferred
LICSW in Rhode Island (or eligibility) to meet broader supervision needs.
Experience with program reporting grant reporting requirements and data systems.
Other graduate degrees (Counseling Psychology Public Administration Public Health) may be considered only if paired with an MSW-eligible co-supervisor for intern oversight.

Schedule & Physical Requirements:
Typical schedule:Monday through Friday 8:00 AM 4:00 PM
Ability to move through multiple program spaces (lobby reception dining hall community areas) throughout the day.
Occasionally assist in situations that may require standing for long periods lifting/moving up to 25 pounds (supplies donations program materials) or responding quickly in crisis situations.
Comfort working in a busy sometimes unpredictable environment with frequent in-person interaction with clients staff and community partners.
Comfort working in an emotionally demanding environment with the ability to model calm and resilience for staff.
