This is a permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) acquires and disseminates geological and geohazard knowledge to support exploration; to inform resource and land management planning; to assist with infrastructure development; and to engage communities schools and the public.

The Head of Bedrock Geology is a key member of the branch management team participating in the design development and implementation of Yukon government programs and services in support of government the mineral industry and other Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) clients. The incumbent leads the bedrock geoscience program at YGS developing objectives strategies and scientific standards related to the collection analysis and reporting of bedrock geoscience information.

Essential Qualifications

  • . or Ph.D in Earth Sciences or related field
  • Extensive working knowledge of cordilleran bedrock geology
  • Experience in technical writing as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience with managing large spatial data and using geographic information system software
  • Experience in public speaking as demonstrated by conference presentations
  • Experience securing funding planning and carrying out field studies
  • Experience supervising geoscientists and technical personnel

Desired Knowledge skills and suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of cordilleran geology and mineral occurrences
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of the role of geological surveys

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence
  • Pre-employment medical

Job Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel within and outside of the Yukon as required
