Summary:
An ocean transportation company is looking to hire a Claims Assistant to join their team. This position is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to claims office personnel. This role involves handling a variety of office tasks including typing filing computer work record keeping and managing phone lines. Work is typically performed under the guidance of a more senior employee with close oversight to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
* Perform general clerical duties including typing filing and data entry.
* Maintain accurate records and handle claims-related documentation.
* Manage incoming and outgoing phone calls including multiple phone lines.
* Prepare correspondence reports meeting minutes and other written materials.
* Support claims processing by assisting senior staff with related tasks.
* Operate standard office equipment and maintain office procedures.
* Prioritize and complete administrative assignments with minimal supervision.
* Interact professionally with customers executives and the general public.
* Provide support during extended hours weekends and holidays as needed.
Qualifications:
* 1 year of experience in the ocean transportation industry or assisting in claims processing.
* Effective business communication skills in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
* Proficiency with MS Word Excel and Outlook (intermediate level).
* High School diploma or equivalent required.
* Strong time management and organizational skills.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
* Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
