Your Role

We are looking for an Executive Producer to mobilize and guide a dynamic and creative team in the production of impactful news and public affairs content that resonates with the public and contributes to Radio-Canadas strategic objectives.

Under the authority of the Senior Manager of News you will be planning directing and coordinating newsroom activities in the countrys largest city. You will foster the production of content that engages the public.

Solid experience in journalism combined with an ability to work under pressure and inspire confidence is the current media landscape it is crucial that you also possess a clear vision of digital evolution and how to innovate in content and platforms.

You will have to combine sharp strategic thinking with a proven ability to make quick and sound decisions in complex and high-pressure environments. You will also be responsible for the performance of a team of over thirty permanent employees as well as numerous temporary staff.

The incumbent will supervise professional development and cultivate a stimulating inclusive and conducive work environment.

In-depth knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices is essential. You will ensure that your team members adhere to them daily as well as during major event coverage crisis management or complex ethical issues.

You must be able to delegate effectively without being afraid to roll up your sleeves and collaborate with your team members. You will also participate in daily decisions concerning staffing and schedules.

Close and proactive collaboration with other team leaders in Toronto Ontario and across the country as well as with CBC will be crucial for planning and maximizing the reach of multiplatform content produced by Ici Toronto and for carrying out interdepartmental initiatives.

Main Tasks:

  • Plans directs coordinates newsroom activities.

  • Supervises the development and performance of newsroom members and communicates strategic objectives.

  • Responsible for allocating human resources within the sector and for operational results.

  • Communicates the calendar of major events to aid in planning and ensure the visibility of our journalistic content.

  • Stays informed about new trends in digital journalism and promotes their integration within the team.

  • Identifies prioritizes and supervises innovation projects as well as transformation initiatives.

  • Encourages creativity in the production of content adapted to new consumption habits.

  • Ensures content quality.

  • Responsible for providing continuous feedback and maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with employees.

  • Collaborates with partners in the news operations and English services sectors for staff development problem-solving and various projects.

  • Other duties assigned by the Senior Manager of News.

Desired Profile:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent.

  • 7 years of experience in the media field with deep knowledge of multiplatform environments.

  • Excellent editorial judgment and mastery of Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple files simultaneously with little supervision.

  • Team management experience and strong leadership to mobilize and inspire creative employees.

  • Proven ability to oversee employee development and provide constructive feedback.

  • Positive attitude and solution-oriented leadership.

  • In-depth knowledge of Toronto and Ontario current affairs.

  • Passion for content digital interactions and creative ideas.

  • Sense of innovation risk-taking and commitment to reflecting diversity and engaging the public.

  • Good knowledge of special program production and coordination.

  • Ability to manage budgets and inspire a culture of collaboration between teams.

  • Bilingual French/English (oral and written).
