The MRI Technologist performs MRI radiologic procedures as ordered by referring physician. The technologist exercises professional judgement to recognize conditions requiring technical intervention. Performs other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Womans Hospital.
Requirements:
- Completion of accredited program of Radiologic Technology
- Current registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technology
- Current licensure with the Louisiana Board of Radiologic Technology
- Minimum of 2 years of MRI experience preferred
- MRI Technologist certification preferred
Responsibilities:
- Arranges supplies and equipment between each trip or patient and procedure to insure timeliness of the examination.
- Assures availability of supplies/stocks.
- Greets each patient identifies self and explains procedures. Gathers pertinent clinical history prior to the examination to aid in diagnostic evaluation.
- Verifies history and patient demographics and reason for exam. Assists with obtaining informed consent.
- Maintains a clean organized and appropriate inventory of supplies for the area assigned daily. Cleans equipment as needed between each patient to assure aseptic condition of diagnostic area.
- Reads and verifies physician order prior to exam. Properly identifies patient according to hospital policy prior to performing exam. Orders or edits test as performed to assure proper billing.
- Performs imaging procedures utilizing proper techniques including the administration of contrast media and properly positions patients to obtain optimal results.
- Uses gloves goggles gowns and other protective equipment when necessary practicing universal precautions with each patient encounter taking personal protection seriously.
- Performs all quality control tasks daily weekly monthly or annually as indicated by equipment manufacturer.
- Administers contrast media as appropriated according to policy and procedure.
- Conducts preventative maintenance on all MRI equipment as needed and following manufacturers instructions. Troubleshoots malfunctions and calls in for repairs as necessary.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment by keeping the MRI room and suite locked when not attended.
- Assists with keeping the MRI room clean and organized by assisting Environmental Services with the tasks necessary to ensure the suite is clean and appropriate disinfection is maintained.
- Participates in MRI instruction and is willing to study and practice instruction in order to gain MRI accreditation.
- Ensures licensure and continuing education credits are in order and current to maintain active licensure with appropriate credentialing agency.
- Recognizes and reports any medical errors or risk to appropriate personnel (supervisor security and/or risk management) promptly.
