The Opportunity
Halifax Water is currently seeking one (1) Term Full-Time Pumping Sation Service Person Apprentice in the Operations Department. The position requires the operation and maintenance of sewage pumping stations. Operation of equipment and tools in difficult conditions in wastewater environment inside and out is essential. The incumbent will be subject to confined spaces noise vibrations odors heat cold rain snow ice and emergency call-outs after normal working hours.
Interested qualified candidates are asked to submit a cover letter and up-to-date resume quoting Competition #HW25-132ER in the subject line (required) confirming their interest by 4:30 pm November 3rd 2025. Completed applications/resumes should be forwarded to the Human Resources Department via email emailprotected. As part of the conditional offer process candidates may be subject to satisfactory pre-employment screening.
What youll do
Responsibilities
- Perform and develop schedules and preventative mechanical maintenance on pumps valves piping and standby engines.
- Clean stations wet wells valve chambers and holding tanks.
- Load and unloads equipment and materials as required.
- General care maintenance and safe operation of assigned equipment and tools.
- Order supplies and materials as required.
- Provide written and verbal reports concerning daily work activities.
- Must be willing to work overtime for emergency call-outs
- Perform related duties as required including all the general duties of a labourer.
What youll need
Qualifications
Education:
Grade 12 required.
Completion of a minimum one year program of technical training in a mechanical discipline.
Apprentice Requirements Experience:
A minimum of one year experience working with pumps/motors/process controls.
