The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal Quebec the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
Inuit Youth Futures is a three-strand intervention project that aims to promote young peoples ability to project themselves into the future. It is geared towards meeting youth where they are at and supporting them in re-engaging with life through individual and community development with the arts. This project combines: 1) establishing an Art Studio for youth to engage with the arts 2) collaborating with emerging Inuit artists to guide and inspire youth and 3) implement an art-based suicide intervention program called Arts in Recovery for Youth (AIRY).
The art therapist will report directly to the PI. Primary responsibilities include:
- assist in the development of AIRY for Inuit youth
- participate in AIRY training
- participate in OCAP training
- participate in DBT training
- deliver and support delivery of intervention in Inukjuak
-provide supervision to others delivering the intervention or working in the art studio
General Duties
Coordinate the establishment of the AIRY program with team local actors youth ambassadors artists knowledge users
Assist with preparation of reports manuscripts and grant applications
Actively reflect on ways to improve and evolve AIRY program
Deliver AIRY interventions in the Art Studio
Co-lead (with PI and post-doc) weekly clinical supervision meetings for community art coordinators research assistant and other AIRY facilitators such as youth to discuss concerns and provide support for secondary traumatic stress (1 session/week for max duration of 2 hours)
Develop AIRY workshop open-art studio intervention activities
Collaborate on the creation of the research protocol
Collect research data and consult on data analysis results
Take field notes
Document art-productions as art-based data
Administer pre- and post-AIRY workshop surveys
Standing consultation with steering committee and advisory council (both youth and general)
Monitor implement and evaluate research
Create coordinate and participate in the Governance Advisory Group
Facilitate coordinate and participate in team research meetings (including presenting findings progress reports for research writing manuscripts and grants)
Establish process for seeing assistance external to project and for raising complaints
Document and coordinate with parents and clinicians involved
Travel to Inukjuak for program launch delivery and monitoring-evaluation purposes.
Excellent English spoken and written French is a bonus.
