Job Description

Lead Academic Teacher LOOP Program

Department: Community and Scholar Affairs

Unit: No Benefits (NB)

Wage: Certified - $26.00

Non-Certified $20.00

Direct Supervisor: Director of the Office of Extended Learning

Program Dates: August - May

Earning Days: Determined annually by the calendar

JOB SUMMARY

Manage and oversee the Academic LOOP program and LOOP academic staff; Provide quality academic instruction for scholars attending the LOOP programs; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all scholars. Program days are Monday Thursday and academic session instructions are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for one hour. Program hours will vary depending on the LOOP site dismissal times. The hours per week are 5.0 hours.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan coordinate implement and schedule academic summer school curriculum
  • Teach during academic sessions the required curriculum and effectively maintain and monitor on-going scholar progress.
  • Schedule academic support staff
  • Manage the academic program staff
  • Schedule arrange and facilitate meetings with academic support staff site coordinator and school principal
  • Serve as liaison between site coordinator school principal building school day staff and LOOP academic staff
  • Collect review for accuracy and submit bi-weekly academic support staff timesheets to Office of Extended Learning
  • Provide scholars with effective instruction modeling and interventions in the various behavioral areas
  • Develop detail and concise lesson plans for each subject area; plan and provide appropriate educational supplemental activities to meet both groups and individual needs of all children within the classroom
  • Utilize best classroom management practices to create a learning environment that is conducive to learning curtails disruptive behaviors and enhances scholars self-esteem
  • Responsible for scholar academic progress report follow through
  • Attend MANDATORY scheduled monthly Lead Teacher meetings and trainings
  • Attend Professional Development opportunities as required and/or offered
  • Report absences to OEL Director and Academic Staff in advance (if known)
  • Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher education
  • Michigan teaching certificate required
  • Valid Michigan Health License (Social Worker Physical Therapist Speech and Language Pathologist Occupational Therapist)
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in urban setting
  • Prior to working with scholars complete LARA (PA 116) mandated requirements
  • Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) including fingerprinting by LARA approved agencies (no cost to applicant)
  • Obtain CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility
  • Complete MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Modules A B C and Transportation or annual Health and Safety Refresher Course; submit learning record transcript to Office of Extended Learning upon completion of MiRegistry Health and Safety Courses or refresher course trainings.
  • Module A MUST be completed before working with scholars.
  • Obtain First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by LARA approved agencies; submit ARC/AHA certificate/card to Office of Extended Learning upon completion
  • Display physical social mental and emotional soundnesers to execute the duties of job
  • Serve as a role model for all scholars and within school community
  • Interact with co-workers administration scholars parents and the community in positive supportive and cooperative ways
  • Encourage the team spirit and contribute as a team member in the decision-making processes of the school as facilitated by the building administrator
  • Maintain and promote school district goals and objectives
  • Comply with state federal and District policies procedures rules and the union contract
  • Regular and on-time in-person attendance is required
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated understanding of current research as to how children learn and the ability to motivate scholar to perform at their best
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an economically culturally and racially diverse environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction by using a variety of styles and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all scholars
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of scholars.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
