Job Summary

Position Summary:

The Behavior Support Aide provides compassionate individualized support to a non-verbal individual with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) epilepsy and cerebral palsy (CP). This role focuses on implementing behavioral and medical care plans promoting communication through an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device assisting with physical needs and creating a safe supportive environment across home school and community settings.





Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the individuals Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) using consistent proactive strategies.
  • Support and encourage the use of an AAC device (e.g. tablet speech-generating device) for communication throughout all activities.
  • Follow the individuals Seizure Action Plan (SAP) recognize signs of seizures respond appropriately and record detailed post-event documentation.
  • Assist with mobility and physical needs related to cerebral palsy including use of wheelchairs gait trainers orthotics or adaptive seating.
  • Support participation in educational recreational and daily living activities in a respectful encouraging manner.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with feeding hygiene dressing or toileting when needed.
  • Create a predictable structured routine that supports the individuals sensory behavioral and medical needs.
  • Monitor document and communicate behavioral data seizure activity physical status and AAC use.
  • Foster independence choice-making and engagement in the individuals daily life.
  • Collaborate closely with family therapists medical providers and educators.
  • Attend required trainings and maintain up-to-date certification in First Aid/CPR seizure response and behavioral support (e.g. CPI or PRO-ACT).



Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED required; associates or bachelors degree in psychology education special education or a related field preferred.
    • Experience working with individuals with autism cerebral palsy epilepsy or non-verbal communication needs is strongly preferred.
    • Familiarity with or willingness to be trained on AAC devices and communication systems.
    • Ability to lift or transfer individuals using safe techniques or mobility equipment.
    • Patient calm observant and flexible in adapting to changing needs.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • CPR/First Aid Certification required



Physical Demands Of This Role:

  • Ability to lift/support individuals and adaptive equipment (up to 120 lbs. depending on individuals needs)
  • Able to stand walk sit kneel and assist with physical transitions multiple times per day.
  • Must be able to respond quickly in case of medical or behavioral emergencies.
