Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure high-quality language access in 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Garifuna Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Garifuna an indigenous Arawakan language with African and Carib influences is spoken in Honduras Belize Guatemala and Nicaragua and is a rare but critical language frequently required in asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time Garifuna English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers applicants and stakeholders.
- Interpret accurately impartially and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and asylum contexts.
- Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
- Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation needs.
- Participate in training compliance refreshers and quality assurance audits.
- Native or near-native fluency in Garifuna and English.
- 2 years of professional interpreting experience (immigration asylum community NGO or government preferred).
- Strong cultural knowledge of Garifuna communities in Central America and the diaspora.
- Familiarity with interpreter ethics confidentiality and neutrality standards.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.
- Competitive pay: $3038/hour (rare-language premium).
